I found this incredible vintage handmade Japanese vase at an estate sale and have been wondering what would look best with its muted colors. I was so excited to get the deep red button Dahlias at the Flower Mart this past week and thought it would be so cheerful mixed with pink ranunculus, clover and orange baby roses. I can’t wait to experiment with new looks!
Catching Up With the Muses
Things have been very busy/crazy at Apartment 46 (in a good way!) and I know I have been slack about keeping you updated. If you happened to pop in for a visit in the past several weeks, you may have been surprised to find my friend Donna at the desk.
Road Trip to Oregon!
Last week I took a much needed break and decided to drive up north to Portland, Oregon. I had never been to Oregon and thought it’d be a nice break and a great opportunity to snap photos of weird towns along the way.
Everything Old is Bold Again
I am incredibly excited about a chair that my wonderful upholsterer, Andres Dubuk, recently finished for a client of mine in Hillsborough. She was searching for fabulous new chairs to add a special touch to her recently purchased home and asked me to keep my eyes open.
We Get Lost So You Don’t Have To!
Part of what I love the most about owning the shop is searching for the treasures that fill it. It’s definitely fun but it takes a very long time and a whole lot of driving. It’s a never-ending explore to corners far and wide – and obscure – and dirty – oh, and did I mention dangerous (see blog about metal fence rescue).
My Newest Favorites
I honestly love everything in my store but at any given time I do have favorites. Right now I am crazy about a beautifully made, sinfully comfortable, pomegranate print arm chair. It’s the absolute perfect curl up and read chair or somewhere to snuggle when it gets cold outside. The print is very elegant but the styling is definitely modern.
Thank You Friends
Thank you to all who helped celebrate our 1 year anniversary May 1st. It is always so much fun to see all of our different friends coming together to share food, fun and laughter. While the past year has been a huge learning experience and we have all been through many changes, I am continually amazed by the people who come into our lives every week.
Inspirations
A lot of things inspire me. In fact, I have the “shiny red ball” syndrome when it comes to creativity. I can be traveling down a path when suddenly, OH! A shiny red ball! And I’m off in another direction. It makes for some interesting chaos but in the end it all comes together quite beautifully.
Rainy Days and Escapades
First, I want to thank all of my wonderful customers for continuing to support and love Apartment 46. For those of you that don’t get the eNewsletter, I had to take a full time job to keep afloat during these unsteady times. The desire to provide a beautiful, comfortable and interesting shop is so important to me that I’ll do what it takes to keep the doors open. Valentine’s Day was outstanding! I was caught up in such a flurry of bouquet-making that I didn’t actually have time to photograph the flowers!
In With the New
You know me, I’m always open about what’s going on at the shop. Everywhere I look another business is closing its doors – from nationwide franchises to locally owned small shops. It’s hard not to feel despair. I feel as if I’m standing on the dock, waiting for the rescue ferry to come and it just hasn’t gotten to me yet. I’m still here and as of this moment I’m still in business.
