One of the greatest things about Apartment 46 (and of course I am terribly biased!) is the unique nature of every item in the shop. I do carry a few vendor lines, but they have met stringent criteria and are both beautiful and natural.
I am often asked where I get all of the things I have on offer. They come from all over the place – from outdoor markets in Amsterdam to highest bidder estate sales in Hillsborough. I am constantly on the hunt for cool new items to share with my clients. While I don’t add significant amounts of stock on a daily basis, if you stay away for a week, you’re likely going to come back to a whole new arrangement and quite a few new offerings.
I would love to be able to post a photo of every new thing that I collect, but it might be gone by the time I got it posted. Instead, I will continue to post photos of my favorite items and things that I feel best show the vibe and intent of the shop.
Today I was so excited to find an antique silver (early 1900’s) Wallace expandable trivet in the Art Nouveau style. What is a trivet? I know, it probably dates me that I get excited about things that hold hot food but I am all about bringing some level of “fancy” back to the table and home in general and this is a gorgeous piece. The fact that you can pull it apart to fit different sized dishes makes it a pretty high-tech piece of tableware! The piece is marked and numbered for verification. It would make an excellent wedding or anniversary gift.
I also brought in some sterling silver rimmed margarita glasses – making the backyard bar-b-que a bit fancier. They’re really pretty and I’ve never seen anything like them before.
I am also loving the types and varieties of flowers that are showing up at the Mart. I was newly introduced to Castor Beans and their alien-like forms look amazing up against perfect lilies.
As the Ranunculus and Astilbe go out of season, I’m having to fall in love with new types of flowers. Lucky for me that there are hundreds of blooms to choose from! Each week I cart home enough to load up my workstation with lots of inspiration.
I invite you to come see the palette of color and texture I bring in each week. In my opinion, every home needs fresh flowers and well-loved plants to bring it energy and life.
Enjoy your day!
