Part of what I love the most about owning the shop is searching for the treasures that fill it. It’s definitely fun but it takes a very long time and a whole lot of driving. It’s a never-ending explore to corners far and wide – and obscure – and dirty – oh, and did I mention dangerous (see blog about metal fence rescue).
Today we adventured to Ohmega Salvage in Berkeley to do some shopping. Fun for me but maybe not so fun if you don’t like rust, sharp metal, spiders, dirt, and getting lost (because that’s how I roll). I was looking for legs to complete an amazing 1970’s hutch I have in the shop.
Specifically, I want antique ball and claw feet because it’s very medieval and striking. I found vintage glass pulls, antique fence from New Orleans, Buddha statues larger than cars, headless baby dolls, tile, Jesus, and rows and rows of toilets.
What did I bring back to 46? A handful of gorgeous antique wrought iron finials and two numbers. You guessed it! 4 and 6!
It may seem ridiculous to have gone all the way to the East Bay to scour places for treasure but that’s what I do. I collect so you don’t have to. I spend hours carefully curating my shop so you will always have a varied, eclectic and ever-changing selection of objects, gifts, flowers and plants.
We’d love you to come visit and tell us what you’d like us to search for on your behalf!
All our best,
Melisa and Miranda
