Although I am always saying that I am not a florist, I enjoy providing special occasion flowers and creating something beautiful. I was extremely honored to be asked to put together something very small and meaningful for a couple that is getting married today in San Francisco. A friend of the two grooms stopped in to see if I could do two boutonnieres and baby bouquets short notice so she could make their day more special. I was thrilled to be asked. The only direction I was given was to do something different and to use my judgment. Knowing that symbolism was an important part of these flowers, I chose to go very simple but to use uncommon flowers that would be memorable for the grooms and their two young daughters.
I hand selected a gorgeous Echeveria that had produced two very striking blooms with the intent of incorporating the succulents into the boutonnieres. I loved that both came from the same plant and that the plant would live on long after the special day had ended. Having never tried to work succulents into such an arrangement, there were more than a few outbursts of Tourette’s thatoccurred but in the end, it was wonderful to be challenged to create something that would be given with love for such a momentous day!
I incorporated mini Calla Lilies, Chocolate Cosmos, Grape Hyacinth and Veronica into baby bouquets hand tied with gossamer gray ribbon for the girls. I used Echeveria, Grape Hyacinth and Chocolate Cosmos for the two grooms.
I am always willing to work with folks on designing unique and interesting arrangements, and I love it when the final product comes together in such a great way!
We will be open half day this Friday. Have a wonderful Fourth of July!
