Last week I took a much needed break and decided to drive up north to Portland, Oregon. I had never been to Oregon and thought it’d be a nice break and a great opportunity to snap photos of weird towns along the way.
Everything Old is Bold Again
I am incredibly excited about a chair that my wonderful upholsterer, Andres Dubuk, recently finished for a client of mine in Hillsborough. She was searching for fabulous new chairs to add a special touch to her recently purchased home and asked me to keep my eyes open.
Apartment 46 Featured in Gentry!
We are so thrilled to be included in the Summer issue of Gentry Magazine. As a wonderful bonus, the editors included a gorgeous shot of our store’s exterior by the photographic phenom, Patrick Beaudoin, in the Table of Contents section.
We Get Lost So You Don’t Have To!
Part of what I love the most about owning the shop is searching for the treasures that fill it. It’s definitely fun but it takes a very long time and a whole lot of driving. It’s a never-ending explore to corners far and wide – and obscure – and dirty – oh, and did I mention dangerous (see blog about metal fence rescue).

My Newest Favorites
I honestly love everything in my store but at any given time I do have favorites. Right now I am crazy about a beautifully made, sinfully comfortable, pomegranate print arm chair. It’s the absolute perfect curl up and read chair or somewhere to snuggle when it gets cold outside. The print is very elegant but the styling is definitely modern.
Wendy and Sheldon – Married December 2008
Wendy and Sheldon were married on Dec 31, 2008 in Half Moon Bay on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
As an homage to Wendy’s Taiwanese heritage, I incorporated Asian peonies. To reflect her personality, style and spirit, I used the brightest, boldest and bravest color I could find – hot pink – and wrapped it in a deep burgundy silk Offray ribbon. The bride, wearing a stunning column dress accented her look with a Gardenia in her hair.
I made boutonnieres for the groom, the bride’s father, and the groom’s father as well as corsages for the bride and groom’s mothers.
I made varying sizes of pink and white arrangements to be scattered around the beautiful old railroad station house where they held an intimate reception dinner.
Wendy and I have known each other for almost 15 years. It was such an honor to be able to provide flowers for her special day!

Jamie and Chris – Married October 2008
Jamie and Chris were married on a bluff in Redwood City overlooking the beautiful Crystal Springs Golf Course on October 2, 2008.
For her bouquet I used antique blue and purple Hydrangeas, black Calla Lilies and Chocolate Cosmos as her anchor flowers. I wrapped the stems in a sumptuous sea green woven silk Offray ribbon.
Jasmine branches by the boatload were draped along the fence and archway and accented with two symbolic butterflies where the bride and groom stood for the ceremony.
A custom-made green basket festooned with ribbon and butterflies and was filled with dried Hydrangea petals for her flower girl to scatter down the white walkway.
I did a Gardenia corsage for the groom’s mother and boutonnieres for her groom, the best man, and the groom’s father. Smaller, complimentary bouquets were made for her two attendants and wrapped with satin gray ribbon. I also provided beautiful Gardenia blossoms for Jamie and her attendant’s hair.

Thank You Friends
Thank you to all who helped celebrate our 1 year anniversary May 1st. It is always so much fun to see all of our different friends coming together to share food, fun and laughter. While the past year has been a huge learning experience and we have all been through many changes, I am continually amazed by the people who come into our lives every week.
Happy 1st Birthday Apartment 46!
We’ve made it a full year! Granted, not one step of it has been easy but EVERY step of it has been blessed. Thank you to all of my wonderful clients/friends who have made it so incredibly worthwhile. It seems impossible that I could have met so many wonderful people just by collecting things I love but I’m so grateful for it!
